Course Outline-

This course will present information on a broad range of materials and therapeutics used in the delivery of oral health care for pediatric dental patients.  Caries management approaches have expanded in recent years to include resin infiltration and silver diamine fluoride.  A variety of pulp medicaments including numerous silicate based materials have emerged and are being used for pulp capping and pulpotomies.  Non-surgical restorative approaches remain controversial and there are an assortment of materials used for full coverage restoration of primary anterior teeth such as composite resins, glass ionomers and resin modified glass ionomers.  Other esthetic approaches for anterior restorations include resin faced stainless steel crowns and most recently zirconia crowns.  Pros and cons of each these different classes and types of materials and techniques used in their application will be discussed, cases presented and the evidence supporting the use of different materials and clinical approaches presented.  The audience will be encouraged to participate and share their experiences with the group.

Course Objectives-

After completing this course the attendee will:

-Be familiar with the diverse materials used for caries management, restoration and esthetics for the primary and early permanent dentitions.

-Understand the rationale for selecting different materials and restorative approaches for the primary and early permanent dentitions.

-Be familiar with the both non-surgical and surgical approaches for restoring the primary dentition.

-Be familiar with the evidence supporting the use of different dental materials for the pediatric dental patient.
